The ZTA module uses a technology called Socket Intercept: traffic is intercepted at the socket level, directly in the kernel, before it reaches the classic routing layer (Layer 3), and a QUIC tunnel comes up automatically, without user intervention. Each device receives a unique certificate, stored in a TPM or hardware enclave, which cannot be exported or copied.
