Datanet Systems and Soitron bring added performance to cybersecurity

Datanet and Soitron attended Connect Romania 2024 together as Cisco’s main partners in Romania and the region. The two companies have a long-term collaboration strategy that involves a common approach to certain business sectors and types of technologies, as well as sharing resources and know-how.

Cybersecurity is one of the areas of collaboration. On the one hand, Datanet Systems experts are involved in projects run by Soitron (such as the implementation of a DoS protection solution for Orange Slovakia), and on the other hand, services from the Soitron portfolio (such as VOID SOC) are becoming available to organizations in the local market. In fact, Martin Lohnert, Managing Director of Void SOC, Cybersecurity Operations Center of the Soitron Group, was present on the stage of Connect Romania 2024.

Founded in 1991, Soitron is one of the largest technology companies in the region, with a team of more than 850 employees, more than €195 million in annual revenues, and subsidiaries in seven countries, including Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, the UK, and Poland. Currently, Soitron is a leader in the implementation of new technologies and innovative solutions in the areas of infrastructure, unified communications, contact centers, cyber security, data networks, outsourcing, etc. Datanet Systems has been part of the Slovak Soitron Group since November 2009.

Security solutions and services in the Soitron portfolio

In the area of cyber security, Soitron has an impressive portfolio of solutions and services, which are also available locally through Datanet Systems. The joint offer covers:

Security architecture consulting and design: this package includes the outlining of a security strategy according to the customer’s objectives and vulnerability analysis against specific risks and compliance requirements, and the design of a security architecture based on these. An important role in this process is played by the “Soitron Security Sensor”, a security solution designed to analyze network traffic as well as the content transferred and to warn of any potential risks in the network. The solution includes technologies such as behavior analysis (Cisco Stealthwatch), intrusion prevention and next-generation firewall (Cisco Firepower), sandboxing (Cisco Threatgrid and Fortinet Fortiguard), and harmonized for best results.

Implementing complex security architectures: Datanet-Soitron collaboration provides beneficiaries with a superior level of protection across the board: network, endpoints, identity and access management, data, mobile applications, and cloud services. Complex orchestration and management solutions are also available to simplify and automate administrative tasks. The solution portfolio is built through partnerships with the industry’s most renowned vendors and validated in multiple deployments. In addition, beneficiaries can opt for operational outsourcing, Managed Security, and CISO as a Service.

By using such solutions and services, organizations can strengthen their security posture as more and more attacks target data networks. Also, thanks to visibility into traffic and anomalies, incident reporting and incident response are much more timely, which ensures a better level of compliance with the requirements of regulations such as NIS 2 and GDPR. In 2023, for example, Datanet, with support from the Soitron Group, carried out the first security posture and strategy assessment project at a company in Romania.

Soitron VOID SOC by Datanet Systems

A major market differentiator for Soitron is also the VOID SOC, a high-performance Security Operation Center with an experienced team that benefits from the most advanced tools. The Soitron-Datanet collaboration makes this SOC also available to organizations in Romania. Among the services delivered are:

  • Managed Detection and Response (MDR) and SOAR (Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response).
  • 24/7 infrastructure monitoring, not only during business hours but especially when malicious activities are more frequent (nights, weekends, holidays).
  • Continuous assessment of any suspicious activity, regardless of source, in a proactive way to detect a potential threat as early as possible.
  • Maintaining confidentiality by only analyzing technical aspects (logs, traffic values) and not data and associated content.
  • Reducing pressure on the IT budget by contracting a service subscription rather than making an investment in technology.
  • Limit the damage by identifying and blocking breaches before they propagate through the network.
  • Keeping you informed through reports and alerts on activity and severity of incidents to focus attention on the really important issues.
  • Reaction in real-time or as quickly as possible, depending on preferences, internal procedures, or regulations, all based on a firm SLA.

For many Romanian organizations, operating an internal SOC is too complex and costly, but necessary to protect their critical infrastructures. The possibility of outsourcing to VOID SOC represents an opportunity, as there are few professional SOCs available in the local market.

Datanet Systems expertise for Orange Slovakia

Collaboration at the group level is bi-directional and Datanet Systems offers its expertise for projects carried out at the group level. In a project for Orange Slovakia, Soitron Group called on Datanet Systems engineers to implement and deploy a DoS protection solution based on Arbor Networks technology. The involvement of Datanet Systems was one of the winning factors in this project, as Jan Derer, Transmission & IP Engineering Manager at Orange Slovakia stated: “The expertise and experience of the Datanet Systems team in similar projects had a strong positive impact on our decision.”

The solution designed by Datanet Systems protects against DDoS attacks targeting both Orange Slovakia’s IT infrastructure and the operator’s customer base. Arbor DDoS Protection enables the verification of each data packet and the creation of smart signatures that differentiate attacks from legitimate traffic, facilitating their fast and efficient neutralization without affecting the quality of communication services. All components of the solution were implemented and configured in collaboration with Datanet Systems’ technical team, which also provided training to Security Operation Center (SOC) operators and IP network engineers. The choice was an inspired one, and the project had immediate effects, with response times to DDoS attacks decreasing “from hours to minutes to seconds”, according to the beneficiaries.

Benefits of collaborating with Datanet and Soitron

Based on a strong partnership, Soitron and Datanet Systems are leading providers in the cybersecurity field, offering a wide range of services: consulting, implementation, outsourcing, etc. The joint expertise of the two companies extends beyond cybersecurity, enabling them to deliver complex IT architectures that meet the most diverse requirements of their beneficiaries.

With a deep understanding of technology and a customer-focused approach, Datanet and Soitron deliver next-generation solutions, proactive threat intelligence, and effective incident response to ensure maximum protection of customers’ sensitive information and critical systems.
