This month, Datanet Systems celebrates 25 years of activity in Romania, an age which represents experience and maturity for the Romanian market. A quarter-century of permanent contact with technologies, of aligning with a constantly changing global industry, of creating an organizational culture, alliances and partnerships.
Our story began in 1998 when a group of enthusiastic engineers founded the commercial company named Datanet Systems, combining technical skills of the younger founders with the maturity and practical ability brought by Vasile Velicu. At that time, IT was pioneering work, and technologies such as the internet, local networks, personal computers, mobile phones, and GPS were emerging as in the Romanian economy.
Since them, we have become a top technology company, bringing cutting-edge solutions to the local market. Our projects have often been national premieres, whether we are talking about high-speed networks, telemedicine, video collaboration or contact centres.
“Our philosophy has always been centred on adopting new technologies and implementing them into useful solutions for our clients,” says Dragoș Stroescu, Director Executive of Datanet Systems. “We have taken the latest solutions, developed into a technical environment created by Internet, which we adapted them to various domains, whether more or less critical, to generate performance growth or cost reduction.
Over the years, we have adopted many trends, such as “everywhere” IP technology, and later on “everywhere” Ethernet. Nowadays, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence are the emerging technologies in the field. With such solutions and technologies have created our company’s reputation, backed up by quality services offered throughout the full lifecycle of the provided systems, from design to implementation and support. These will continue to be the essential elements that constitute the essence of Datanet Systems.”
When reflecting on Datanet Systems’ milestones, it’s worth noting the partnership with Cisco in 1998, which has since become an integral part of the company’s DNA. The company has also achieved several large-scale projects such as creating the largest encrypted network in Romania for the National Bank of Romania in 2002, developing the first integrated IP network for 2G/3G voice traffic in Romania (2007), or being the world’s first Partner Cisco Specialized IP NGN in 2012.
Additionally, joining the Soitron group in 2009 was another significant milestone, one of the largest integrators in Central Europe.
“Throughout these 25 years, Datanet Systems has maintained two main constants within the company – the close collaboration with Cisco Systems and our unwavering focus on training and education. We have evolved alongside the industry, bringing innovative technologies to the local market. The launch of voice over Internet (VoIP) was probably the most “exotic” technology at the time, but today it’s a globally adopted communication technology that has revolutionized the industry. Datanet Systems will continue to strive towards being a reference in the field, with an innovative approach in developing the IT infrastructure for local and regional clients,” added Dragoş Stroescu.
Datanet Systems today
As of today, Datanet Systems has established a significant footprint in the local market, with a range of services provided by Datanet Systems Software and national coverage through Datanet Systems Cluj. The company’s activity is supported by over 160 highly skilled professionals, with the majority holding top professional certifications.
„Since its inception, Datanet has prioritized building a strong team within the company, focused on achieving optimal performance, embracing new challenges, and committed to solving complex problems. Over the years, the Datanet team has repeatedly demonstrated its capabilities, working together to find ingenious, fast, and efficient solutions, implementing successful projects with the latest technologies in the field. We have often been pioneers in implementing integrated IT solutions in Romania, and our effort has been, and continues to be, recognized by Datanet’s clients,” mentioned Anca Chirculete, Director Executiv Adjunct, Datanet Systems.
Over the past 25 years, Datanet Systems has continuously expanded its client portfolio, with a strong focus on large and enterprise companies in the financial, utility, and telecommunications sectors, as well as public organizations in healthcare, education, and defence. We are committed to providing cutting-edge digital technologies and ensuring security to any company or institution in need.
In 2022, we achieved strong results across all areas, including increased revenue, strengthened market position, team consolidation, and the completion of several major projects. These included a 100 Gbps high-speed network for a prominent banking client in Romania, two call center projects integrating modern conversational AI systems, and complete digitalization solutions for a new hospital in Romania.
These projects, with their unique mix of technologies and competencies, have become the hallmark of Datanet Systems.
”We concluded 2022 with a 34% growth and are determined to maintain the pace as we started the year strongly by adding new products and services to our portfolio and increasing the number of professional certifications of our team. Our projects are not only large, but also complex, requiring a highly qualified and prepared technical team.
Therefore, we aim to uphold our position as a technological leader by investing considerably in the training of our team,” says Dragoş Stroescu.
How will look like the next 25 years?
Looking towards the future, the tech industry continues to inspire with endless possibilities. In 2023, we anticipate expanding our portfolio in the areas of security, cloud, and data center. We are taking important steps to ensure the availability of services through the Soitron group, such as the Security Operations Center, where we already have our first clients. The SOC as a Service solution is aimed primarily at public and private organizations that manage critical infrastructures and are subject to the regulations of the NIS Directive. In addition to this, we plan to focus on providing a larger volume of professional services for any product or solution sold.
”We allocate a significant budget annually for employee training to ensure aligning with the latest technologies in the field. We will continue to prioritize the growth and development of our team with whom we aim to undertake large-scale projects, both nationally and internationally. Partnerships with the world’s most important IT solutions providers are also a priority. We intend to consolidate existing partnerships and integrate new vendors into the Datanet portfolio to build integrated solutions that meet the needs of our customers,” mentioned Anca Chirculete.
On long term, Datanet Systems’ objectives aim to achieve technological neutrality, increase the engineering capacity of the company, and expand the field operations team. The main investments will be directed towards the laboratory infrastructure necessary for the development and testing of solutions, as well as internal training, along with training courses in various technological areas.
